STREET FASHION! I grew up as an avid collector of comics, posters, t-shirts and all sorts of street level merchandise. I remember how I used to use all these great low-brow artworks to express my own attitudes, beliefs and opinions. As I got a bit older and started working as a professional street performer I began to really appreciate the way this kind of art, especially fashion, affects our lives. Clothes, comics, posters and accessories are just too accessible & influencial to be written off as junk or commercial commodities. These mainstream "canvases" permits the artist to communicate on a massive scale. Galleries are important but they can never disseminate ideas like a popular street style does moving all around and about the city. T-Shirts have been the most effective way to connect with audiences of all ages and all walks of life. I've put shirts on the homeless and sold them at the A.G.O. ( Art Gallery of Ontario). One of the greatest rewards I get as an artist is walking downtown and seeing one of my designs storming through the crowded streets. |
