Toronto Skyline Mural – From the suburban outskirts to the downtown core the city of Toronto is a bustling center of non stop activity. Traffic, trains and buses move busily weaving in and out of the of action bringing life and adventure with each new stop. From the mountain of Canada's Wonderland to the Metro Zoo the city is full excitement. The monumental CN Tower hovers above our aquarium, concert and sporting arenas and our business district is booming while all around the area small neighbourhoods like Kensington, St. Lawrence Market and Yorkville offer unique pedestrian interactions. The city also boasts a number of artistic and cultural hubs such as the R.O.M. (Royal Ontario Museum, A.G.O. (Art Gallery of Ontario) and O.C.A.D. (Ontario College of Art & Design) as well as numerous theatres, institutions and landmarks. The city is also of interest for it's beautiful harbour front, historical architecture, roadways and natural parks.

This giant mural was designed to commemorate the places, both past, present and future which have had an impact on the identity of Toronto. Working with a large focus group we determined a number of significant locations, events and symbols to include in the work. The idea was to create an imaginary geography which could depict as many different aspects of the city as possible while maintaining the overall look of a skyline. The locations shown along the bottom are rendered in a sort of collage that doesn't recessionary follow real directions but does make for interesting investigation as the audience may discover new things with each new viewing.

The list of landmarks, buildings, and locations running from left to right (west to east along the Toronto skyline) is basically as follows: Canada's Wonderland, The Gardner Expressway, Pearson International Airport, Woodbine Race Track, west end suburbs (Etobicoke), the C.N.E. grounds, a GO train, Black Creek Pioneer Village, Harborfront, the Rogers Centre, Ripley's Aquarium, The Convention Centre, Steamwhistle Brewery, Air Canada Centre, Roy Thompson Hall, Royal Alexandra theatre, Yorkville, Kensington Market, Queen's Park, Castle Loma, TTC Subway train, Honest Eds, University of Toronto, A.G.O., O.C.A.D., the R.O.M., a classic TTC Street Car, Union Station, the Royal York Hotel, The Bloor Reference Library, Osgood Hall, New City Hall/ Nathan Phillips Square, a modern TTC street car, Old City Hall, the Elgin Theatre, a Yonge Street parade, the Eaton Center, Yonge & Dundas Square, St. Lawrence Market, the Flat Iron building, Princess Whales theatre, the Distillery District, the Bloor Viaducts, GO Train, the Don Valley Parkway, the Scarborough Bluffs, east end suburbs (Scarborough, Pickering, Whitby etc.) and the Pickering Powerplant.
